So last night, I decided to do something I have never done before...
While making dinner, I decided to line my baking sheet with wax paper, to hopefully make cleaning up a little easier (thrilling, I know, this is the life of married me). Anyways, I have seen cooler women do this and I thought nothing of it.
It didn't work out so well for me.
5 minutes into the cooking process, I hear our smoke alarm (and in turn, house alarm) blaring through the house and run upstairs to see a smoke-filled kitchen. G quickly takes the smoke-alarm apart, as I open the oven to see that the wax paper has completely started on fire and is burning to a crisp!
I am so confused?!?! I thought that was what wax paper was for!? Somebody help me out, please, because I must be clueless or something?
Oh Jess. I did the same thing. Mine didn't start on fire though. It did fill my house with smoke. You let me know if you figure out how to make it not do that.
ReplyDeleteha ha...i did the exact same thing! mine didnt start on fire either but im pretty sure it would have if i didnt catch it as quick as i did! since then ive used tin foil and it works great, but if you figure out the use of wax paper let me know!
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny! The only time i've used wax paper is to bake cookies and it worked out ok. That was before i was married. Our oven is too small for a regular cookie sheet... so i haven't tried it in awhile. :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't experienced that yet. But, one time I was making brownies for some of the guys in our grade. (this is 9th grade mind you) It told me to test it with a toothpick so I put it in and didn't take it out. (It didn't tell me to, so I didn't!) My brownies were burned crispy, and the tooth pick was a little brown. I am no Martha Stewart.
ReplyDeleteI admit that I have never tried using any kind of paper for baking, but I thought parchment paper was the thing to use... no?
ReplyDeleteThat is hilarious!!I never use wax paper, so I would have no idea? Have you tried using a silpat though? I never put anything on a cookie sheet without that!
ReplyDeleteI use those sheets all the time and it always works. Maybe you need to move the rack further from the actual thing thats doing the heating?
